Montenegrin coast-Anchorages
Žanjice beach
Žanjice beach is placed on the entrance of Boka Bay, on the western side of Lustica peninsula. South of this beach there is an even smaller one called Mirišta.
Anchorage: In this part of Boka Bay you can anchor in the middle of Žanjice beach, or in front of Mirišta beach, which is more exposed, less protected. If you decide to anchore in these parts you have to pay attention to sea wrecks which are lain down on 400 m west from Ogada rocks, between Žanjice and Mirišta beach, on 30m below sea level.
Herceg Novi Bay
Herceg Novi
The town with mid evil walls, a fortress is the only one in Boka Bay which can be seen from open sea. Port of Herceg Novi is placed to the opposite side of entrance to Boka Bay, and on the north shore of Herceg Novi bay.
Anchorage: Anchorage is permitted west and east from port, in Meljine beach, near port of Zelenika, or in front of Igalo (Topla beach). It is important to say that the end of this beach is shallow.
Zelenika
Port Zelenika is on the northeast shore of Herceg Novi bay. This port is border crossing passage where you can do all the necessary entrance-exit procedures. It is border crossing that has Harbor Master's Office dominion, customs and border police. Marina Zelenika is nearby. Anchorage: In this part of Boka Bay you are recommended to anchor in Meljine beach. This anchorage is very safe, even in south winds.
Kumbor strait (channel)
This channel is between Herceg Novi and Tivat bay. On its soudern shore is deep, while on north is low, and shallow by shore.
Anchorage: In Kumbor strait anchorage is strictly prohibited.
Tivat Bay
This bay is placed between Kumbor channel and strait of Verige. In south-east part of bay, near shore is shallow, and there are tree small islands: Ostrvo, Stradioti and Prevlaka.
Anchorage: In front of port Tivat there is a possibility for anchorage even of big ships, due to depth of 18-20 m. On east part of Tivat Bay (Podpolje beach) there are basins for breathing seashells and anchorage is strictly prohibited.
In Donja Lastva, on the east shore of Tivat Bay, between cape Seljanovo and strait of Verige anchorage is recommended in front of beach on depth of 30m. Sea bottom is sandy and muddy and holds anchor well.
Strait of Verige
Anchorage: Strictly prohibited for this part.
Risan Bay
Surrounded by rocks and high cliffs, north of Morinj beach there is Risan Bay.
Anchorage: In this part of Boka Bay the safest place to anchor is in front of Port of Risan. Sea bottom is very muddy, so it holds anchor well if winds are from south, but you must lower both anchors if winds are north.
Perast
Ba-rock Boka town, placed opposite strait of Verige. Its prime pier is in front of central church bell tower.
Anchorage: It is in front of town. When it is Bura (north wind) safer is on east side of Perast, and when winds blow south, neart to west side, on the beginning of Risan Bay.
Kotor Bay
Port of Kotor is on far south part of Kotor Bay. Port of Kotor has a Harbour Master's Office, border line crossing, border police and customs, Port State Montenegro. Here you can do all port formalities. If you rather focus on your journey, and not to do port formalities, feel free and contact Yacht Agent Montenegro team.
Anchorage:
- 1 mile northwest from St. Stasije church (Dobrota) on 30m depth
- southwest, or north from St. Mathews church (Dobrota) on 16 m depth
- west-northwest from port light in port of Kotor on 16 m depth
- in the place called Prčanj on the west shore of Kotor Bay, during south winds is recommended to anchor near shore. The sea bottom is hard and muddy.
Coast from Miriste Cape to Petrovac
Bay of Traste
This bay is between Kociste cape and Traste cape. There are tree beaches: Mededa, Przno and Bigova
Anchorage: In this area you can anchor:
- north-east from cape Traste, sea bottom holds good, 12-16 m deep.
- in the bottom of Bigova beach, sea bottom holds good, 6-10 m deep.
- in front of Traste cape there is a shallow water belt.
Budva
Budva is a Montenegrin tourism metropolis. When entering this port, Old Town walls and bell tower should be your primary orientation marks. In the port of Budva there is Branch Offices dominion, border crossing and police.
Anchorage: In this Adriatic port you should consider under sea sewage pipeline laid from Zavala cape to south 1,3 miles long.
In this area you can anchor:
- smaller vessels- east from port Budva, 7-8 m
- bigger vessels - in south winds can anchor on west-northwest from cape Zavala
- bigger vessels - in north winds can anchor on the northeast shore of St. Nicolas island.
Both of this anchorage holds well and depth is 12-15 m.
Coast from Petrovac to Mendra cape
Petrovac
Petrovac is a small, pictures town on 20 km from Budva.
Anchorage: In south winds anchorage is recommended on 600 m northwest from chapel on St. Nedelja island. Bothom of the beach in front of Petrovac is not reliable for anchor. During anchor in Petrovac you should consider sewage pipeline that goes from Brsalj beach due south-west for 0,7 miles.
Because of vast number of boat marks for small vessels it is not possible to anchor in front of the town.
Sutomore
Sutomore beach is 3 miles northwest from port of Bar.
Anchorage: On this beach south wind blows on high rate, so you should anchor near east shore, it is 14-18 m deep.
You can not anchor on this beach if winds are coming from open sea.
Bar
Port of Bar is the biggest Montenegro port for commercial ships, major port for Montenegro Navy ships, and port for ferry line with port of Bari-Italy. In this port you can do all formalities necessary for entrance/exit Montenegro territorial waters.
Nearby port there is Harbor Master's Office, border crossing, border police, customs and Department for Safety at Sea. Yacht Agent Montenegro is here for you, to finish your port formalities in no time.
Anchorage: In sea territory behind the line Voluica cape-cape Ratac anchorage is prohibited, as at shore east of that line. Anchorage is allowed west of that line.
Mendra cape-river Bojana waters meet
Ulcinj
Montenegro far south. If you are approaching Ulcinj from southeast you should be careful for unmarked rock Deran and shallow waters Ceka, southwest from rock. These danger point are one mile away from shore.
Anchorage: In this part of Adriatic it is safe to anchor on locations:
- between Voluica cape and Deran cape, during south wind, near shore 0,5 to 1 mile distance, it is 30-40m deep and sea bottom holds well.
-on 700 to 800 m south of Ulcinj marina, sea bottom holds well. This is the best anchorage in south wind for this area.
